We have very sophisticated laboratory equipment which allows us to do most diagnostic work here in our hospital.  As a result, we can more rapidly assess our patient's health and can institute treatment in a timely fashion.

This is our laboratory area.

This is our automated blood cell counter - it allows rapid analysis of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.  In addition, we manually look at slides to be certain there are no morphologic (size and shape) abnormalities which would not be recognized by the counter.

This is our blood chemistry analyzer.  We are able to evaluate serum or plasma for liver, kidney and pancreatic values as well as blood sugar, proteins, electrolytes, etc...   We also are able to evaluate basic thyroid function and soon will be capable of analyzing cortisol and phenobarbital levels as well.

In addition to performing numerous tests in our hospital, we also utilize outside labs for more specialized tests.  We most commonly use Marshfield Laboratories in Wisconsin and Michigan State University Animal Health Laboratories for these services.
